Karlsson continues to dominate

Champion elect Robert Karlsson's dominance of the UBS Hong Kong Open continued as the Swede maintained his four stroke lead at the midway point of his third round at Fanling.

Overnight leader Karlsson carded flawless back-to-back rounds of 64 to take control of the US dollars 2.25 million event and continued his birdie blitz to reach the turn in 31, with his first dropped shot of the week coming after a 10-foot putt at the ninth leapt out to leave the leader at 15 under.

Australian Marcus Fraser carded a third round bogey-free five-under-par 70 to move onto 11-under overall alongside first round leader KJ Choi of Korea, who was five under with three to play.

Peter Hanson, who will partner Karlsson at next week's World Cup at Mission Hills, and Australian Scott Strange sit at 10 under with two to play alongside India's Shiv Kapur, who is a hole further back.

Karlsson's playing partner Miguel Angel Jimenez, the 2005 champion, also dropped a shot at the ninth after finding the trees off the tee to reach the turn in 32 to join the duo at 10-under after the Spaniard had reeled off three birdies in four holes in the middle of his front nine.

Karlsson failed to make the cut in 2005 and was so unhappy with the way he dealt with the tricky sloping greens at the testing short Fanling course he did not return a year later.

But with next week's World Cup at Mission Hills in mind, Karlsson headed to the Hong Kong Golf Club with a new approach and it has certainly paid off so far this week.

The world number 45 was quickly out of this blocks with a run of three consecutive birdies from the second before collecting his first birdie of the week at the par four sixth.

Karlsson's only mistake in 45 holes this week came as his second shot at the 463-yard par four ninth only reached the fringes of the green and leaving him with a long uphill putt, which finished short of the hole.

Ireland's Gary Murphy is in the clubhouse on eight under after signing for a four-under-par 66. Former Hong Kong champion Simon Dyson is also at eight-under remaining after picking up a shot through eight holes and is joined by Northern Ireland's Graeme McDowell, who has played eight holes of his third round also in one-under-par.
