But Kear's side, who were thrashed by Huddersfield Giants at Belle Vue last week, produced a storming performance to dish out a 50-6 hiding to the Welsh club who remain bottom of Super League.
Kear said: "I think we bottomed out last week against Huddersfield and there has been a lot of self-examination from players, coaches and the club. We asked for a response from the players and, if the last 40 minutes against Huddersfield was one of the worst we have played all season, I think the first 40 in this game was probably the best. You have to give credit to the players."
He added: "With Leon's sad passing, this was the second time we had prepared to face them (the Crusaders) so we felt we knew them pretty well. We exploited one or two areas and we negated some attacking play we thought they would come up with.
"It was a tough place to come back. It is not that we don't like coming down here. I pay tribute to the Celtic Crusaders as a club and I have nothing but admiration for them.
"But, when the bus pulled up in the car park, your mind was cast back to the last time we were here. It was terrifically sad and we have Kevin Henderson back in Australia who has lost his father as well.
"So it has been tough but we still have to play rugby - and we played rugby very well."
