Keegan wants to hang on to Harper

Manager Kevin Keegan has ruled out selling Newcastle goalkeeper Steve Harper

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Harper as understudy to Jose Reina but the 33-year-old's outstanding form as stand-in for the injured Shay Given means Magpies boss Keegan is loathe to lose him.

Keegan told the Newcastle Chronicle: "I am not looking for him to go out, though I'm sure he would come and see me if Liverpool come and knock on his door. I'm not surprised if other teams are interested. Steve Harper is a very, very good goalkeeper."

He added: "Everyone has always known that, but it's always been hidden by the fact he has not played."
