Kenyon: Must do better

Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon insists the club will not settle for second best next season.

The Blues ended the campaign without a trophy for the first time in four years following Wednesday night's Champions League final defeat in Moscow.

Kenyon told The Times: "It's been an interesting season, but you don't like finishing second and as runners-up. Given the standards we've set at the club, that's not something we've settled for."

Chelsea were also runners-up in both the Barclays Premier League and Carling Cup, as well as suffering a shock FA Cup quarter-final exit at lower league Barnsley.

Kenyon hinted there will be changes at Stamford Bridge during the summer and added: "Three months ago, we were involved in four competitions, six weeks ago we were still in two and on Wednesday we got knocked out of the last one.

"It's disappointing from that point of view, but we're going to regroup from that and come back better next season."

Even before their penalty shootout heartache in Moscow, there had been talk of player comings and goings at Chelsea, while manager Avram Grant's future has been the subject of constant speculation.
