Kewell targets final spot

Harry Kewell believes he has a fighting chance to be in the Liverpool squad for the Champions League final in Athens.

The Australia midfielder had been out all season until a late substitute appearance at Fulham last weekend and now he has declared himself fit for the May 23 re-match against AC Milan.

"I've been working hard over the last eight weeks. We did testing the other day, everything went well," he said. "The manager is happy, the assistant manager is happy, the fitness coaches are happy, so it is literally down to the manager."

He added: "I am feeling as close to 100% as I have ever felt before in my life, the only thing I am missing is competitive games."

Robbie Fowler will bring the curtain down on his Liverpool career tomorrow but goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek will almost certainly be denied the chance to play in one final game for the club.

Fowler's contract will not be renewed, while Dudek also leaves in the summer but a groin injury sustained in training yesterday means the Poland international is highly unlikely to be fit to face Charlton.

With Jose Reina nursing a shoulder injury Italian youngster Daniele Padelli has the chance to make his debut in goal with youth team keeper Dave Roberts on the bench.

Manager Rafael Benitez will also bring back the clutch of experienced stars rested recently, although Mohamed Sissoko is out with an ankle problem.
