Khan withdraws from bidding

The British Boxing Board of Control have confirmed Khan has indicated he does not wish to pursue the matter. The contest was to have doubled as a mandatory defence of the Bolton star's Commonwealth lightweight crown.
Khan is instead focusing on his fight with Denmark's Martin Kristjansen in London next month, which promoter Frank Warren hopes will be ratified as an eliminator for a WBO title shot.
Months of tentative negotiations for the domestic super-fight came to nothing, with Thaxton's camp rejecting a significant offer from Warren outside the bidding process, before Khan elected to switch his attention elsewhere.
The British Boxing Board's general secretary Simon Block said: "The Board will be disappointed Khan has decided not to put himself forward for the bidding process, and also that Thaxton appears to have turned down a career-best purse. With the great end in 2007 for our sport, this match was to be one of the most eagerly awaited."
Khan now faces the possibility of being stripped of his Commonwealth crown with officials due to meet to discuss the fate of that title in due course.
