Kim shines in the rain

Already with four top-10 finishes in 13 events, but still seeking his first win of his rookie season, Kim used a blistering finish to move top of the leaderboard.
Kim was among 57 players who finished before an afternoon thunderstorm flooded the course. Play never resumed after the second weather suspension of the day and the first round will resume on Friday morning.
After a bogey at the 12th hole left him one under, Kim closed with six straight birdies, including four after an 82-minute rain delay, to card a seven-under 63.
Kim, who is less than a month from his 22nd birthday, was not sure what propelled him to his impressive finish.
"There really wasn't one thing," Kim said. "Usually when something turns around during a round, you can tell. I don't know what it was. Maybe it was taking the head cover off, or my putting, or just opening my eyes. Something changed, and I don't really know what it was."
Kim is one shot in front of Ted Purdy and Jeff Maggert, who each signed for 64s.
Defending champion Tim Herron, who broke a long victory drought last year at Colonial Country Club, is four strokes back following a 67.
Jim Furyk is the highest-ranked player in the field at number three in the world. He was one under through five holes before play was suspended.
