Hull have confirmed the signing of Wigan striker Marlon King on a season-long loan.

The Barclays Premier League newcomers have been in discussions with the 28-year-old for several weeks as they bid to strengthen their squad ahead of this weekend's season opener.

The Tigers have also confirmed the signing of Tottenham defender Anthony Gardner, who has been on loan with the club, in a club record £2.5million deal.

Wigan have confirmed King will not be able to face the Latics in either game this season, in accordance with Premier League rules regarding loan deals.

Latics manager Steve Bruce said: "We wish Marlon all the best. He is a good pro and he made a contribution last season.

"He has worked hard in pre-season and has made an impact, but he has chosen to move on for the time being."

Gardner has signed a three-year contract and will be in the squad for Saturday's Barclays Premier League opener against Fulham.

Tigers boss Phil Brown said: "We had an option to make the deal permanent at any stage, so I spoke to him and asked him if he would be happy to stay.

"He has been at the club for four or five weeks now and he said he would, so he now becomes our record signing."
