Kinnear feels ready to return

Joe Kinnear fully intends to be back in the Newcastle dug-out for their next game.

The 62-year-old was due to see a cardiologist on Monday as medics continued to try to get to the bottom of the health problems which saw him admitted to hospital ahead of Saturday's 3-2 Barclays Premier League win at West Brom.

However, he is determined to return by the time Everton arrive at St James' Park on February 22. Kinnear said: "I woke up on Saturday at 5.30am feeling unwell, so our club doctor checked my blood pressure, and it was high."

He added: "We left it for a while, and then decided to go up to the hospital. They decided to keep me in after speaking to a specialist.

"They have done some tests and we will get some more results on Monday.

"A cardiologist is going to have a look at me, and then I hope to be allowed to head home on Tuesday morning.

"I feel A-OK, and hopefully I will be back at work soon. I'm fighting fit, and with a bit of a break before the next game, I hope to be back for the Everton match for normal service."

Kinnear, who suffered a heart attack 10 years ago, will not be allowed to take any chances, although his team's result at the Hawthorns will have done him a power of good.

Goals from Damien Duff, Peter Lovenkrands and Steven Taylor secured a first league win in seven attempts and just a second on the road this season to ease them into 13th place, four points clear of the drop zone.

Kinnear said: "The lads were terrific, and it was a great result for us. A lot of people say West Brom defended badly, but that's sour grapes from my point of view."
