Knee injection for Flintoff

England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff has had a cortisone injection in his right knee in a bid to continue his participation in the NatWest Series.

Flintoff, 29, incurred discomfort during Friday's nine-run defeat to India in a Bristol day-night contest and a scan revealed mild inflammation behind the joint.

He will be assessed again on Sunday at net practice, which he expects to take part in, and which will also include Gloucestershire's Jon Lewis.

With Ryan Sidebottom currently sidelined with a side injury and Flintoff picking up a niggle, England's selectors opted to add Lewis to the 14-man squad.

Having been sidelined throughout the international summer by an ankle injury, Flintoff will want to play a full part at Edgbaston in the third match on Monday.

He returned career-best figures of five for 56 in only his second game back at Nevil Road and has bowled with prolonged hostility.

Lewis, meanwhile, has not played for England since the successful Commonwealth Bank Series campaign in Australia last winter.
