Kubica sets early pace

Robert Kubica topped the practice timesheets for the first time this season ahead of Sunday's Hungarian Grand Prix.

Kubica, currently sixth in the drivers' standings, clocked a time for the 4.384-kilometre Hungaroring circuit of one minute 22.390 seconds.

The lead changed hands a number of times throughout the session, with Kubica ultimately knocking the Ferrari of Felipe Massa off top spot.

The Brazilian was forced to settle for second, just 0.129secs down, followed closely by team-mate Kimi Raikkonen and McLaren duo Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton.

Nick Heidfeld was sixth-fastest in the second BMW Sauber, with Nico Rosberg seventh in his Williams, while Jenson Button was eighth for Honda.

The track represents happy memories for Button as he won his one and only grand prix here a year ago at the 113th attempt.

Fellow Britons Anthony Davidson and David Coulthard were 11th and 14th respectively for Super Aguri and Red Bull Racing.
