League to discuss Briatore's future

Flavio Briatore's future at QPR and other ownership issues at Notts County and Leeds are on the agenda at a Football League board meeting on Thursday.

Briatore was recently banned from Formula One for his role in the 'crashgate' scandal - where he instructed Nelson Piquet Jr to deliberately crash in 2008 - which could deem him unfit to own a football club under league rules.

It is understood the FIA will provide evidence to the Football League over the matter, while the identities of Notts County's owners are also to be discussed.

"We have a board meeting on Thursday and have at least a couple of fit-and-proper person issues which we will address," Lord Mawhinney, chairman of the Football League, said.

"They are on the agenda. I would like to come out of the board meeting with settled policies in general terms which we can apply to future cases that need to be addressed.

"I understand what is being said and we will reflect on that as a board."

Leeds will be also be on the agenda after question marks were raised over their ownership in a recent report.

Mawhinney, speaking at Wednesday's Leaders In Football summit, said: "I said something I have never said before, which is that my personal view is that, if people wish to operate offshore for tax or other legitimate reasons, they are perfectly entitled to do so - that is the law of the land.

"But, if they want to play in our league, we should know who is playing in our league. Having put that on the record, I shall add that to the mix of the conversation."
