Lee claims five wickets as England struggle

Captain Andrew Strauss hit another half-century but there was a familiar feel to England's 220 all out in the must-win NatWest Series match at Lord's today.

Strauss hit 63, exactly the same score he contributed in the six-wicket defeat at the Rose Bowl in midweek, as the hosts once again relinquished a decent start.

The destruction delivered by fast bowler Brett Lee, who claimed a five-wicket haul, meant 21 balls went unused in good batting conditions.

Having dismissed recalled opener Joe Denly with the new ball, Lee returned to clean bowl four other Englishmen to finish with figures of 5-1-49-5.

Plagued by an inability to impose themselves against the Australians - their average score in the series was 231 before this contest - England this time lost their last nine wickets for 124 runs.

Denly, one of three men recalled in England red, displayed positive intent but, shortly after gaining his second four over the top of the slips, another edge was comfortably pouched by Cameron White.

Strauss then shared a half-century stand with Ravi Bopara for the second wicket, but the introduction of spin in the 15th over initially slowed the scoring rate and then proved crucial in dismantling England once again. Off-spinner Nathan Hauritz, operating from the nursery end, was rewarded with the wickets of both men.

Lee yorked Matt Prior with a superb delivery before Eoin Morgan was stumped by Tim Paine off the bowling of Nathan Bracken.

Lee then took charge. Bowling fast and straight, the 32-year-old rushed through Luke Wright, Stuart Broad and Adil Rashid in a clinical spell which reminded onlookers of his absence from the Ashes through injury.

Owais Shah contributed 39 before he swung a waist-high full toss from Shane Watson to midwicket, while Ryan Sidebottom was the last batsman out for two.
