Leinster pair selected

Ireland have included Leinster duo Jamie Heaslip and Bernard Jackman in their squad for the RBS 6 Nations opener against Italy.

Highly-rated number eight Heaslip has been selected ahead of Ulster's Neil Best, who is missing from the 22, while hooker Jackman benefits from Jerry Flannery's suspension.

Munster prop Tony Buckley is also included, supplying back-up for first-choice front rows John Hayes and Marcus Horan, along with Leinster back Robert Kearney.

O'Sullivan said: "The match 22 selection for the Italy game was made on the basis of form.

"While the response of all of the squad over the last week has been excellent, there were some tight calls to be made.

"This will be even harder to do next week when we decide the final selection for the game."
