Lescott talks on-going - Hughes

City have been after Lescott for most of the summer and despite David Moyes' initial stance, it now seems the Everton boss has reluctantly decided it would be better for all parties if the central defender left Goodison Park. A fee of £22million has been mentioned and it now seems only a matter of time before Lescott becomes the seventh City signing of the summer.
"My understanding before the game was that the clubs are speaking," said Hughes, after his side's 1-0 win over Wolves. "I would suggest that is a positive sign, although whether or not anything is concluded only time will tell."
Hughes left open the tantalising prospect that Lescott may not be the last addition to his squad prior to the September 1 deadline.
"Not necessarily," he smiled, when asked whether Lescott would mark the end of his summer spending, having taken it beyond £100million.
City have enjoyed an immensely successful week that has brought them six points, a friendly win over Barcelona in the Nou Camp, and three clean sheets. In addition, £25million striker Emmanuel Adebayor has two goals to his name and is forging an impressive partnership with Carlos Tevez.
"I am quite pleased with their partnership," said Hughes. "It doesn't take good players long to learn how to play together. There is a natural respect from both guys in terms of what each other can produce and they are starting to get to know each other a lot better."
Earlier this week, Wolves boss Mick McCarthy appeared to indicate City could not win the title this time around. However, the straight-talking Yorkshireman has now clarified his stance.
"I didn't say they couldn't win it, I said I didn't think they would. There is a difference," he countered.
"If they carve out as many chances as they did today, brilliant. If they let everybody else carve out as many as we did, it is different. "I can't say we deserved to take something out of the game. That would be balmy because they had so many opportunities. But we nearly did."
