Letting stars go hurt Spurs - Gorman

John Gorman believes Tottenham's decision to sell Robbie Keane and Dimitar Berbatov is the reason why they have made a poor start to the season, but insists it is only a matter of time before they return to winning ways in the league.

Gorman spent two years working under Glenn Hoddle at Spurs and also played three seasons at the club, and although he claimed their departures were probably the main reason behind Spurs' poor start to the season, he backed the club to overcome their troubles.

When asked why Spurs had failed to register a league win this season, Gorman said: "Maybe it is because they have let their top quality players like Keane and Berbatov go."

He added: "They are two good players but maybe it wasn't anything to do with the club, maybe it was all down to the players wanting to go.

"I would imagine that the club would have done everything to keep them there but at the end of the day the players themselves wanted to go to a big club.

"Maybe they have made too many changes and the players have not quite gelled yet," he added.

"There's a lot of good players there for sure. I'd say that once it all settles down they will be fine. All the matches they have lost so far have been close.

"Basically, they have made mistakes and they have been punished for them.

"You can't make too many predictions so early on in the season, it's far too early. It's a long season.

"They have had a bad start to the season but I'm sure Spurs will come through in the end."
