Lindsay to stand down

Long-serving Wigan chairman Maurice Lindsay is to stand down at the end of the season.

The 66-year-old, who first joined the board in 1979 and was at the helm for many of the club's glory years, is currently in his second spell as chairman.

His decision comes a week after the club were deducted four engage Super League points for breaching the competition's salary cap for a second successive year.

Lindsay said: "I have made a decision that this will be my last season as chairman of the club.

"It is not a decision taken lightly as I first joined the board in 1979. I think it is fair to say that the club was close to bankruptcy at that time and was enjoying little success.

"I think it is also fair to say that I played a major part in putting matters right and the club became a major success once again.

"There is, however, a time for everything. I am 66 years old and as many people know my health has suffered in the last couple of years.

"My doctor has constantly stressed to me that I should take more care of my health.

"It, therefore, probably needs someone else to take the club forward for the next 10 years."
