Little Master means Waugh

Sachin Tendulkar claimed another milestone in his illustrious career as he helped India move into a comfortable position in the opening npower Test against England.

The 34-year-old batsman needed six runs to move above former Australian captain Steve Waugh and claim third place in the all-time list of Test run-scorers.

Tendulkar achieved the feat after India had slumped to 27 for two in reply to England's disappointing total of 298 all out, as the tourists recovered to 72 for two with the master batsman unbeaten on 25 while opener Wasim Jaffer had progressed to 33.

Left-arm seamer Ryan Sidebottom claimed the first India wicket when an inswinger trapped opener Dinesh Karthik lbw in the ninth over of their reply.

That lifted England's spirits, which were further boosted by the loss of India skipper Rahul Dravid only four overs before the interval when he pushed at an outswinger from James Anderson and edged behind to Matt Prior.

Earlier, it was India's bowlers who dominated after cDravid took the new ball in the third over of the day.

Sidebottom was the first to go, bowled by Rudra Pratap Singh, before Kevin Pietersen edged Zaheer Khan behind.

Sri Sreesanth followed up by dismissing Prior, Chris Tremlett and Monty Panesar, while Zaheer finished things off by bowling Ian Bell.
