Lloyd: Murray a worry for Wimbledon

Davis Cup captain John Lloyd has warned British number one Andy Murray not to rush back from injury in order to play at Wimbledon this summer.

The 20-year-old was forced to miss the French Open after suffering a wrist injury, and Lloyd believes the timescale for recovery should mean the Scot misses out on Wimbledon as well.

He told the Mail On Sunday: "We all want to see Andy playing at Wimbledon but I'd hope he wouldn't jeopardise his long-term career to answer an obvious desire to get out there and play now."

He added: "If Andy has injured tendons, or ligaments, it usually takes a minimum of two months to recover.

"I'm sure those closest to him will ensure all the proper precautions are taken."

Murray's coach Brad Gilbert is taking a longer-term view for the player's season and believes he will be more than capable of regaining a place in the world's top 10 with some solid performances on the US hardcourt circuit which follows Wimbledon.

He said: "Our goal from the start of 2007 has been for Andy to make the season-end Masters in Shanghai for the world's top eight. That is a good working goal and Andy has time on his side."
