After Andy Murray and Ross Hutchins lost 7-5 3-6 6-3 6-2 to Marcin Matkowski and Mariusz Fyrstenberg in the doubles match at the Echo Arena, Britain must win both reverse singles to avoid relegation to Europe/Africa Zone Group II.

"It's a difficult entry into Davis Cup play but that's what Davis Cup is about," Lloyd said. "I think he'll be fine. I think he'll do a good job and I expect him to win if it comes down to the fifth (rubber)."

World number three Murray will be a strong favourite to beat 18-year-old Jerzy Janowicz despite an injured left wrist, meaning the tie is likely to come down to the final contest between 19-year-old Evans and Poland's Michal Przysiezny.

Lloyd will also be keeping his fingers crossed Murray's wrist injury does not worsen overnight.

The 22-year-old had been somewhat pessimistic about his fitness on Friday but declared himself okay to play on Saturday morning and is hopeful he will be able to take on Janowicz.

"We talked about it and I thought about it and I thought I'd give it a go," he said of the match. "I wanted to play on the deuce side of the court to stop hitting backhands but it wasn't really working so we had to change sides after the first set.

"It was sore during the match but I'm hoping it's going to be okay. We'll have to wait and see if Sunday's as bad."
