Lord Coe elected to IAAF

Lord Sebastian Coe has been elected a vice president of the International Association of Athletics Federations.

Coe was one of the four successful candidates voted into office by the IAAF Congress at its meeting in Osaka prior to the World Championships.

The former double-Olympic 1500 metres champion was chosen alongside Sergey Bubka (Ukraine), Robert Hersh (USA) and Dahlan Al-Hamad from Qatar, and will serve a four-year term.

Bubka comfortably topped the list in picking up 167 votes, ahead of Hersh (141), Coe (137) and Al-Hamad (129).

"This is going to be tough and complicated," Coe had said before voting began.

Both Ilkka Kanerva from Finland and Cuba's Alberto Juantorena withdrew from the contest the day before the Congress assembled.
