Magical Murray crushes Chela

Andy Murray continued his electric start to the Madrid Masters on Tuesday with a stunning victory over 15th seed Juan Ignacio Chela to reach the third round.

Murray classed his 6-4 6-1 victory over Radek Stepanek in the opening round as one of the best performances of his career, but he produced arguably an even better display to hammer Argentinian Chela 6-1 6-3 in just over an hour.

The British number one, who had won two of his three career meetings with Chela prior to this encounter, could hardly have had a better start to the match as he totally dominated the first set.

The Scot stormed into a 5-0 lead after dropping just one point in his opening three services games, whilst also breaking Chela twice.

Murray failed to make the most of two set points in the sixth game as Chela finally held serve, but the British ace completed his demolition of the shellshocked Argentinian in the next game, taking the set in just 28 minutes.

Murray continued his overwhelming dominance at the start of the second set when he again broke Chela in the opening game before holding his own serve to go 2-0 ahead.

Murray was simply unstoppable after that, producing superb winners off both the forehand and the backhand to go 4-1 ahead.

Chela finally enjoyed some success on the Murray serve in the sixth game to reduce the deficit to 4-2, before holding serve again in the seventh to make it 4-3.

That was as good as it would get for Chela though, with Murray winning the final two games to take the set and the match in style.

Next up for Murray is a third-round showdown with either home favourite Rafael Nadal, the 2005 champion here and second seed, or Marcos Baghdatis, who meet on Wednesday night.
