Massa hits out at F1 politics

Felipe Massa has slammed the political state of Formula One he feels has resulted in more fighting off the track than on it this season.

Massa fears the egos within F1 have raised the political stakes to dangerous levels, and he has become exasperated by the whole sorry situation.

"We have had a lot of political fighting in many areas, and I don't think that has helped the sport," said Massa.

After failing to acquire an injunction against next year's rules, Ferrari are currently weighing up whether to take their feud with the FIA to the civil courts.

Although a Paris tribunal recognised Ferrari have a right of veto with regard to new rules drawn up by the FIA, they have deemed the matter a contractual dispute and beyond their jurisdiction.

However, that failed to prevent FIA president Max Mosley from admonishing Ferrari for their selfish attitude, and for thinking they are bigger than the sport.

With Ferrari deciding what course of action to take, they reiterated on Wednesday their stance that if no agreement can be reached between the teams and the FIA, they will end their 60-year participation in F1.

"The way this championship has started has been very different compared to other years," reviewed Massa.

"Many people have become upset because of these many fights, and it would be nice to have more sport and less politics, that's what we're here for.

"We are not here for political reasons, we are here for sport, to fight for positions. That's the good thing about Formula One. I just hope things are going to be okay, but if we lose Ferrari, Formula One won't be the same, no matter what people say."
