Mathers completes Wigan switch

Wigan have confirmed the signing of former Leeds full-back Richie Mathers from Australian club Gold Coast Titans.

The 24-year-old has agreed a three-year deal with the Warriors after securing a release from his contract in Queensland.

He is fit again after undergoing a knee reconstruction but the second and third year of his contract are dependent on him playing a minimum number of engage Super League games in 2008.

"This was too good an opportunity for me to turn down," said Mathers. "I have had a great time in Australia with the Gold Coast Titans and thank everyone at the club for the way they have looked after me on and off the field."

Mathers will fill a full-back vacancy at Wigan due to Chris Ashton's cross-code move to Northampton and the retirement of Michael Withers.

He is only the club's second signing for next season and the first since new owner Ian Lenagan completed his takeover.
