McClaren eyeing Moscow win

Steve McClaren wants England to wrap up Euro 2008 qualification on Wednesday following the straightforward 3-0 victory over Estonia at Wembley.

It was the same scoreline as their previous four qualifiers, a run of results that has put them within sight of next year's tournament in Austria and Switzerland.

"We've won our last five qualifiers 3-0," said the England boss. "We beat Russia 3-0 a few weeks ago and there is a lot of belief and confidence. With this team and the players we have got, wherever we go and whoever we play we go out to win. We don't go out to draw."

He added: "Whatever system or tactics we use, it will be a great opportunity to go out and win the game and qualify."

McClaren has no fears over the artificial pitch at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, adding: "We've done our research and there is no difference between the two surfaces.

"We have to cope with whatever pitch we play on - it was slippy on top against Estonia at Wembley."

McClaren could change his system against Russia and he looked at a 4-3-3 formation towards the end of the Estonia victory, with Frank Lampard a possibility to come back into midfield at the expense of Shaun Wright-Phillips.

"Shaun is a team player and that is key," McClaren said. "Not only going forward but defending, he has a good partnership with Micah (Richards)."

Lampard was brought on as a substitute for the last 20 minutes against Estonia but was jeered by home fans.

"It's disappointing," said McClaren. "No-one likes that. It's a situation we have to deal with and Frank has to deal with. It is disappointing that he gets a reaction like that but players have to deal with that. Frank has done it in the past and he'll do it again."
