McClennan expects Rhinos to respond

Leeds Rhinos coach Brian McClennan is confident his side will bounce back from their engage Super League defeat to Harlequins and believes the result could even help them in the long run.

The Rhinos - who are four points clear at the top of the table - lost only their third game of the season as Will Sharp's first two tries this term gave Quins a 28-24 victory.

"I think a bit of adversity will do us good," said McClennan, who guided his side to World Club Challenge glory at the start of the season.

"It's a kick in the pants for us but we'll just need to get over it and bounce back in the next game. It feels like we are the hunted rather than the hunters at the moment and that has got to change.

"The scoreboard often reflects how games have gone and here it did the same. The best team won."

Quins coach Brian McDermott - who signed a new contract to remain at the Stoop until 2011 this week - said: "This win is up there with the best for me.

"We had to win a couple of big games back in 2006 to stop ourselves getting relegated, but this win is up there with those.

"There were a couple of momentum changes in the game which put Leeds on top but we kept them out.

"When they played us in the Challenge Cup last month I don't think we did that. It was a very similar game to the Challenge Cup but we defended a lot better this time.

"The players are moving to a different level and that is why I sign a new contract. The potential at this club is massive."
