McCulloch set to clinch Rangers switch
11 January 2007
Lengthy negotiations between the clubs were concluded on Wednesday and McCulloch will now discuss personal terms with Rangers.
The 29-year-old should be available to take part in Rangers' pre-season trip to Germany and could make his debut in Friday's match against FC Gutersloh.
Wigan boss Chris Hutchings yesterday completed the #5.3million signing of Wales midfielder Jason Koumas from West Brom, smoothing the way for the McCulloch deal to go through.
Details of the fee involved remain undisclosed, however Rangers were thought unwilling to match Wigan's initial asking price of around #2.5million.
McCulloch is poised to become Rangers' eighth permanent recruit to their first-team squad this summer.
Manager Walter Smith identified McCulloch as a target immediately after returning for a second spell as Rangers boss in January.
Smith had been keen on McCulloch during his time as Scotland manager and tried to prise him away from Wigan within weeks of taking charge at Ibrox.
Providing there are no hitches to the deal proceeding, McCulloch will follow Kirk Broadfoot, Alan Gow, Graeme Smith, DaMarcus Beasley, Jean-Claude Darcheville, Carlos Cuellar and Roy Carroll into Rangers this summer.
Andy Webster has also extended his loan from Wigan until January, with Rangers strengthening in every department.
