McEnroe hails Henman

US Davis Cup captain Patrick McEnroe has described Tim Henman as the "ultimate tennis professional".

Henman will hold a press conference in New York later today to outline his plans for the rest of the year, following speculation he is set to retire from the sport following next month's Davis Cup tie against Croatia.

McEnroe said: "Tim has just been a great professional. He's obviously a lovely guy as a person, but as a player I just think he has been the ultimate professional."

He added: "I believe he over-achieved by doing as well as he did every year at Wimbledon.

"He never had a big weapon but instead he relied on his movement and getting to the net and being quick around the court.

"I always scratch my head when I'm over there at Wimbledon covering it and they're (media) giving him so much stick because to me he did a lot better than he really should have done.

"I give him all the credit for that because he worked very hard."
