McGeechan buoyed by vital victory

Danny Cipriani put his England misery behind him by kicking 20 points in a 25-16 success at Murrayfield. The win was far from pretty but there was no shortage of drama as Cipriani booted Wasps into a 12-0 lead and Edinburgh roared back to go 16-15 ahead before the visitors recovered.
"It's not pretty, it's nowhere near the quality of rugby that was being played last year, but there was a lot at stake," said McGeechan.
"We've just got to keep winning. We couldn't afford to lose," he added.
Having each lost one of their opening two pool matches, neither side could really afford to drop points if they were to maintain realistic hope of reaching the quarter-finals.
The Lions boss applauded Cipriani, who arrived in the Scottish capital in arguably the worst form of his fledgling career.
"His kicking was very good," said McGeechan of the fly-half, who was dropped by England after error-strewn displays in the first two November Tests.
"He probably knows his own kicking game hasn't been top notch."
McGeechan insisted it had not been difficult to lift Cipriani's spirits, adding: "Credit to all the England boys, they've had a six-day turnaround.
"When you've played four tough weeks internationally, it was a big ask of them and they've been excellent."
