Speaking at Sydney airport moments after landing in Australia fresh from helping his country claim their third consecutive World Cup crown in the Caribbean, McGrath revealed he does not want to completely alienate himself from the game in the future.
"I still feel I have a big part to play in cricket," McGrath said. "I am looking forward to sitting down and working out which role that is."
McGrath was in sparkling form at the World Cup, taking 26 wickets at an average of 13.73, and despite winning player of the tournament in his final hurrah, the 37-year-old admitted he is looking forward to putting his feet up and relaxing with his family.
"The first thing I want to do is to get away from the game for a while, probably have six months or 12 months off," he continued. "I will weigh up my options and then decide which way I want to go.
"I have got a lot of thoughts in my head, I would like to get them in order so that it is easier to pass them on to the younger guys coming through."
