McNamara aims for semi cheer

Bradford coach Steve McNamara claims he is almost relieved the Bulls have drawn holders St Helens in the Carnegie Challenge Cup semi-finals - so they do not have to play them in the final.

Reigning world and Super League champions Saints have beaten the Bulls three times in cup finals in the summer era, in 1996, 1997, and 2001, and will renew their rivalry in this year's semis.

McNamara said: "It's certainly an interesting draw against St Helens. Our record against them in major finals is appalling so it is a good opportunity to take them on in a semi-final."

The draw kept Saints apart from their fierce rivals Wigan, who will battle it out with Catalans Dragons for a place in the August showpiece at the rebuilt national Wembley stadium.

"Our focus remains the same and that is to win the semi-final and then go on to win the competition. We will prepare well for the game and we will be giving it our best shot," added McNamara

The first semi-final between Bradford and Saints will be played at Huddersfield's Galpharm Stadium on July 28 with the Warriors taking on the Dragons the following day the Halliwell Jones Stadium in Warrington.
