McNamara proud of Bulls
06 January 2007
The Bulls led 14-6 when Lesley Vainikolo scored his 137th try for the club early in the second half but they conceded two tries in the last 14 minutes to go down to their third defeat of the season.
"I think both coaches should be proud of their teams - it was one of the best games of rugby league this season," said McNamara. "I'm disappointed we've lost but it's not the end of the world."
He added: "You've got to put it in perspective. We showed far more urgency and handled their two half-backs Rob Burrow and Danny McGuire for the majority of the game."
Leeds scored the game's first try through Australian winger Scott Donald after 13 minutes but had to wait until 14 minutes from the end for their second.
Gareth Ellis pounced on a defensive blunder and, with time running out, Donald finished off a break from McGuire to grab his crucial second and send Leeds to the top of the table.
"It was a great game of rugby league," said Leeds coach Tony Smith. "The standard, particularly in defence, by both teams was unbelievable. Every point had to be earned.
"I wouldn't have been too disappointed, with the effort my boys put in, if we had lost that game."
Smith singled out former Bradford skipper Jamie Peacock for special praise, saying: "It was one of his best games in a Leeds uniform. I thought he was absolutely terrific."
