McRae to ponder Reds return

The popular Australian, served a pre-match meal in the Willows Restaurant as a guest of the club, had plenty of food for thought as the Reds boosted their survival chances with a gripping 14-12 victory over form team Huddersfield.
"He's not put in an application," said Salford football director and caretaker coach Steve Simms. "To be honest, I've not asked him. He's a friend of mine and was coming to the game anyway. When he stepped off the plane, he didn't even know that Karl had gone and, to be honest, I've not spoken to him about it. He's still a bit jet-lagged."
Salford served up a feast of rugby for their success-starved faithful, clinching a precious victory with two spectacular long-range tries from wingers David Hodgson and Gray Viane midway through the second half. .
Salford's fans celebrated as if they had won the cup, such was the magnitude of the victory which has breathed new life into the club's flagging season.
McRae, installed as clear favourite to succeed Karl Harrison, arrived back in England 24 hours before the match to take up a three-month contract as a summariser with Sky Sports but could now be tempted to pick up the coaching reins once more.
"It's up to Shaun. When I saw him earlier today, he said he'd not really thought about it," added Simms.
"Maybe now he will put in an application. That's up to Shaun, it's not up to me.
"At the end of the day, I can only recommend. The only person who is going to sign anybody is (chairman) John Wilkinson and he's going away tomorrow (Sunday)."
