Rashid Ramzi, the 1500 metres gold medallist in Beijing who is from Morocco but runs for Bahrain, has been named by the country's Olympic committee as one of those who tested positive.
Italian cyclist Davide Rebellin, who won silver in the men's road race, has been named as another, though he has denied any wrongdoing.
German cyclist Stefan Schumacher has also been named by the German cycling federation as having tested positive for CERA in Beijing.
Greece's 2004 Olympic 20 kilometres walking champion Athanasia Tsoumeleka admitted earlier this year she had tested positive under the new checks for a sample given two days before the start of the Beijing Games.
Another positive test came from athletics - the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) confirmed three athletes from within their federation had failed tests.
The IAAF said in a statement: "The IAAF must wait for further details from the IOC before considering any provisional suspension of the athletes and a decision is not expected within the next week.
"Just as the IAAF has already re-analysed its own samples taken prior to Beijing, the IAAF would like to commend the IOC for their efforts in the storage and re-analysis of samples and for their co-ordination with the IAAF in this process.
"This step shows that athletes who cheat can never be comfortable that they will avoid detection and sends a strong message of deterrence."
Another athlete to have tested positive for CERA is Croatian 800 metres runner Vanja Perisic who finished sixth in her heat in Beijing, according to sources close to the investigation.
