The way he set up a depleted team to secure a 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena in the UEFA Cup has to be respected.
"I can understand the supporters' reaction when I came in but they have got behind the team, which is important," said the former Leicester boss. "The fans came over here in numbers and played a huge part in helping us get this result."
Kevin Davies stunned the unbeaten Bundesliga leaders by securing a point from this group game by grabbing the equaliser with eight minutes remaining.
Bayern were on course for a predictable victory following a brace from Lukas Podolski after Ricardo Gardner had made the breakthrough with his first goal in almost five years.
The Trotters now have two points on the board following the draw against Braga with games against Aris Salonika and Red Star Belgrade to come.
Megson continued: "We kept going against Bayern. The attitude and application of the players was exceptional.
"When you come to a place like this teams can be beaten before they start. But we began brightly and got that goal from Ricardo, which was just what we wanted.
"It was a big night for us. The talent and quality of this Bayern team was there for all to see. We were without 12 players so those who came in deserve every credit
"Slowly but surely they came into the came into the game and (Franck) Ribery is as good a player as I have ever seen. He is a fantastic talent."
