Miandad calls for Broad ban

Broad, the ICC match referee for the Test series between Sri Lankan and Pakistan, was caught in cross fire during an attack on the convoy of the Sri Lankan cricket team while they were travelling to the Gaddafi Stadium for the third day's play in the second Test. Broad, who emerged physically unhurt from the attack, criticised security arrangements saying it had left them "sitting ducks".
"I will urge the ICC to impose a life ban on Broad as he, being the official, has no right to make such remarks in public," Miandad told the Dawn.
"When I was head of the organising committee for the two one-day internationals between Pakistan and Sri Lanka in Karachi, Broad was very impressed with the security arrangements.
"But when I asked him to express his views before the media, he refused, saying he was not allowed to comment on security to the media but could only write to the ICC about it.
"But now by speaking to the media on the Lahore attack, I believe Broad has pleased a lobby and the ICC should take strict action against him."
Broad was also the match referee for the three-match one-day series which had preceded the Tests.
Pakistan cricket chief Ijaz Butt had reacted with similar anger to Broad's claims and had vowed to lodge a complaint with the ICC. Former Pakistan opener Aamir Sohail also joined Miandad and Butt in criticising Broad.
Tuesday's attack left six policemen dead and five Sri Lankan players and an assistant coach injured.
