In a replay of last year's final, and under the new retractable floodlights at Lord's, Martin van Jaarsveld's unbeaten 75 formed the cornerstone of Kent's impressive 191 for three.
It was a total that proved well beyond the hosts who could muster just 129 for eight in reply and fall to their second defeat in as many games.
Also in the South Division, Surrey snatched a one-run win over Hampshire who lost their final seven wickets for just 20 runs.
Stewart Walters (30) was the best of the Brown Caps' batsman as they posted 125 for eight - a target that looked well within the reach of the Hawks.
Hampshire lost openers Michael Lumb and Jimmy Adams without scoring but Chris Benham (39), Sean Ervine (25) and Michael Carberry (25) looked to have set up the win as the visitors were at one stage 90 for three.
The dismissal of Carberry prompted a stunning collapse that improved Surrey's win-loss record to 2-1 while Hampshire are now 1-1.
In the Midlands/Wales/West Division, there were wins for Somerset and Glamorgan against Warwickshire and Gloucestershire respectively.
Somerset made it two wins from as many games thanks to another fine batting display from Zander de Bruyn (72) as they beat the Bears by five wickets. De Bruyn was well supported by James Hildreth (39) as the Sabres surpassed their target of 188 with two balls to spare at Taunton.
Ryan Watkins claimed figures of five for 16 as Glamorgan posted their first win by 39 runs against Gloucestershire at Sophia Gardens. Openers Mark Cosgrove (52) and Jamie Dalrymple (43) put on 86 for the first wicket to pave the way for Glamorgan's total of 166 for six.
