Miller eyes greatness

Kenny Miller may have missed out in Paris - but the Scotland striker knows he is within touching distance of being involved in one of his country's greatest ever achievements by qualifying for Euro 2008.

Injury robbed the Derby forward, 27, of a part in that famous 1-0 win against France last month after suspension had ruled him out of the victory over Les Bleus at Hampden Park 12 months earlier.

Miller is determined to be heavily involved when Scotland play Georgia on Wednesday and take the team to within touching distance of Euro 2008 qualification, saying: We have definitely given ourselves a chance now - but it's going to be tough. It will be a really tough game against Georgia, but at least we know now that the game against Italy will be a 'live' one."

A win against Georgia would leave just a single point standing between Scotland and guaranteed qualification for next summer's finals when Italy come calling in the final match of the campaign.

And Miller added: "We want to win the game on Wednesday so that we go into the Italy game still top of the group and in pole position with a really good chance of going through."

Miller has come to terms with his absence from Scotland's French successes.

"I missed both games against France, which was disappointing, but these things happen in football, and you just have to get on with it," he said. "I was delighted to be in the team at the weekend and it was good to get a goal as well."

Miller's strike against Ukraine, after just three minutes, was his first of the Alex McLeish era and set Scotland on their way to a 3-1 win which keeps them top of of Group B before the match in Tbilisi.

"It's always good to get a goal," he said. "That was my first goal for Alex, and it was good to get off the mark again after missing the last two games through injury. It was another huge result for the team. It was important that we got the three points - we have been strong at home throughout the campaign and it was important to continue that.

"I thought we deserved the win. It's great if you can get an early goal and settle the nerves, so to get two goals in the first 10 minutes was beyond our expectations. But the chances fell to us, and we were fortunate enough to take them."
