Miller: There are no problems

National selector Geoff Miller has attempted to draw a line under England's second Test defeat by South Africa at Headingley.

Miller had sought an explanation from Michael Vaughan over the captain's comment that "confused" selection may have affected performance. England were beaten by 10 wickets in a match overshadowed by the surprise selection of Nottinghamshire seamer Darren Pattinson.

Miller said: "We have analysed everything. We have cleared the issues that supposedly were involved in the last Test. I've had a chat to Michael Vaughan and I sat down with the selectors and there are no more problems."

He added: "We are trying to make every decision on a sensible basis. We are responsible for selecting the side and people who know me know there is a logic and a reason behind all the selections made."

Pattinson, with the experience of just 11 previous first-class matches, was plucked from obscurity to play on the eve of the match.
