Bell hit 79 as Warwickshire progressed to 168 for three in reply to Durham's 433 in their LV County Championship Division One clash at Edgbaston. Tony Frost (56) put on 129 with Bell, who fell just before tea on day three.
Vaughan, in desperate need of a good knock, could only manage 43 for Yorkshire against Worcestershire at New Road.
The visitors were in trouble at lunch as Chris Whelan grabbed three wickets to leave them on 122 for five but an unbeaten stand of 152 between Andrew Gale (67 not out) and Ashes hopeful Tim Bresnan (81no) helped them reach 260 for five - 155 runs behind.
Sussex's victory hopes were in the balance at Hove as they reached 74 for two against Somerset in their second innings.
They were set 349 to win after bowling the visitors out for 178. Piyush Chawla, who picked up a five-for in the first innings, did the damage again and finished with superb figures of six for 52.
Mike Yardy and Murray Goodwin fell early for Sussex but Chris Nash's unbeaten 55 kept the hosts in the hunt.
Andrew Flintoff failed with the bat again as Dominic Cork showed his old club what they are missing on the second day at Liverpool.
Lancashire chose not to renew Cork's contract at the end of last season but Hampshire came in for the England veteran and his three for 43, coupled with Chris Tremlett's four for 49, saw Lancashire bowled out for 208.
Flintoff managed only 12 as he continues his comeback from a knee injury while Paul Horton top-scored with 37. The first day of play on Wednesday was washed out.
