Mohali to host second Test

Mohali will host the second Test between India and England, the Board of Control for Cricket in India have said.

Chennai and Mohali were granted hosting rights in the revised itinerary which followed the Mumbai terror attacks - but while the England and Wales Cricket Board have cleared Chennai, doubts persisted over Mohali, with security adviser Reg Dickason due to assess the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium on Tuesday.

However, the BCCI's chief administrative officer Ratnakar Shetty said the matches would be held as scheduled.

"Chennai and Mohali would host the matches," he said.

Punjab Cricket Association president IS Bindra is unaware of the ECB's security concerns over Mohali's status as host of the second Test, which is set to begin on December 19.

Bindra told the Hindustan Times: "We have no information of Mohali being in doubt due to security or any other reasons.

"The only notification we have is that Dickason would be here (on Tuesday), while ECB officials would arrive here on Wednesday."

The ECB are reportedly unhappy with Mohali because of its proximity to the border with Pakistan and the lack of a direct flight to London.

But Bindra said there would be strong security in place for the second Test.

"We are certain we can provide foolproof security for the match," he said.
