The Scottish pair won the World Cup in China at the weekend, and although Montgomerie is 44 and Warren just 26, their playing partnership could now continue in Louisville, Kentucky, next September when Europe bid for a fourth successive Ryder Cup win.

Asked in Glasgow whether he would want to partner Warren against the United States, Montgomerie said: "I'd take him tomorrow, he's a super guy and a very good golfer. He did brilliantly with me and I don't think I'm the easiest person to play with."

He added: "I think he was under a bit of pressure to play with me but he performed brilliantly and all credit to him.

"He's a potential Ryder Cup player of the future, and he's only 26. He's coming into his time now and I would say he would be disappointed if he didn't get in the Ryder Cup team on this occasion."
