Moores: Vaughan wanted Pattinson

England head coach Peter Moores has indicated the controversial selection of bowler Darren Pattinson for the second Test against South Africa was down to captain Michael Vaughan.

The Grimsby-born, Australia-raised bowler was surprisingly called up last week due to Ryan Sidebottom's injury ahead of several more experienced players.

But after watching his side's 10-wicket defeat at Headingley, Moores told Sky Sports 1: "Vaughany knows conditions here well. He just felt that we needed a bowler to give us a full length, because the pitch looked as if it was going to be slow."
