The 32-year-old back-rower, who is the club's vice captain, had been ruled out for the season after ripping a quad muscle against Leeds in May and underwent major surgery.
However, he has made a quicker-than-expected recovery and, after training fully this week, has been named in coach Steve McNamara's initial 19-man squad for the trip to Widnes' Stobart Stadium.
Full-back Michael Platt is also back after a three-game ban, while Paul Deacon and Wayne Godwin have been passed fit after picking up injuries at Castleford last Saturday.
Wigan have second-rower Gareth Hock back from suspension and prop Eamon O'Carroll has been included in coach Brian Noble's 19-man squad in place of the injured Paul Prescott.
