Mourinho 'future is uncertain'

14 January 2007
The Portuguese coach, linked with a switch to Real Madrid in the summer, declared: "Chief-executive Peter Kenyon and I have a lot of meetings. I told the board in person I want to stay. I was satisfied with their reaction, Peter Kenyon told me 'great, I'm very happy with your decision'."
But crucially, when Mourinho was asked why he does not say the board are happy for him to stay at the club next term, he replied: "Because nobody told me."
His reply will send shock waves through the club's fan base who are already calling for Russian owner Roman Abramovich to make the situation clear over Mourinho's future.
While Kenyon appeared happy with Mourinho's desire to stay it is the Russian billionaire who will ultimately have the final say on the coach's future.
His silence has caused the rumour mill to go into overdrive but Mourinho is already planning to remain in situ by telling his children's school they will be in attendance next year.
Mourinho added: "I love the club, I love English football. I can say for example that we have told the school that we want to keep their place next season."
