Mourinho in reffing hell

Jose Mourinho knows from bitter experience he will not find Steve Bennett as lenient as Graham Poll after narrowly escaping a red card against newly-crowned champions Manchester United.

The Chelsea boss mistakenly thought he had been sent to the stands by Poll during Wednesday night's goalless draw at Stamford Bridge when he criticised the referee's decision to penalise Claude Makelele for a foul on United's Wayne Rooney.

Mourinho said: "I thought he had sent me to the stands but no he did not. I cannot remember what it was about but with Mr Poll and Chelsea matches there are so many incidents that I cannot choose one."

The Portuguese coach could have been banished from the touchline for the FA Cup final but he escaped such a sanction when fourth official Mark Clattenburg beckoned him back into the dugout.

However, the Blues coach made no secret of his dislike of Poll's refereeing and, although he would not say it directly, was pleased he would not be officiating at the cup final.

Mourinho had a heated exchange with Poll who, earlier in the season, had sent off John Terry in the Blues' defeat at Tottenham.

He added: "I told him a couple of things I had in my heart since the Tottenham game but nothing special. I was not sent to the stands.

"I would not say I am relieved he is not the cup final referee. I just say he is a referee that Chelsea has no luck with.

"If we can have another ref then we are happy. We don't like to have Mr Poll. But the decisions are from the [refereeing] committee and we have to accept them. But if you ask me if I jump with happiness when I know Mr Poll is our referee? No."
