Moyes dismisses Wembley distraction
11 January 2009
Moyes' side take on Manchester United at Wembley and - bearing in mind the Toffees have not lifted a piece of silverware for 14 years - it would be easy for Moyes' players to take their eye off the ball come Sunday's Premier League clash at Aston Villa.
That game, though, is of considerable significance considering the two sides still have their sights on a top-four finish, and Moyes said: "Is it a distraction? Far from it. It's fantastic we're there, but has there been talk of it? No."
He added: "We've done some media things for it, but apart from that we're all focused on the game with Villa.
"In fact, I'm probably playing it down as much as I can."
But Everton's barren spell without a trophy clearly does play on his mind, despite the fact Moyes has again performed superbly this season.
"I'll need to see how this one compares because we finished fifth and reached the semi-final of the league cup last year, so that was a good season," reflected Moyes.
"The consistency I want is to become a team that plays in Europe as often as we can, and we're beginning to get like that.
"But the thing we're waiting for is to get to some cup finals and win them, which is part of the development, and hopefully it will come."
