Murali gives Lancs the edge

Muttiah Muralitharan took five wickets for Lancashire against Sussex to set up an intriguing finale at Hove in their LV County Championship Division One match.

In response to Lancashire's 330, Sussex laboured to 235 as Murali finished with five for 73.

Sussex's attack went some way to repairing the damage caused by a meek first innings by reducing Lancashire to 54 for three at stumps to set up a final day in which any result is possible.

Alex Loudon's development as a front-line batsman continued when his third Championship hundred of the season earned Warwickshire an unexpected first innings lead of 93 against Hampshire at Edgbaston.

Loudon made 103 from 138 balls against a top-class Hampshire attack.

Warwickshire totalled 262 after bowling out Hampshire for 169 and Anyon removed opener James Adams as the visitors trimmed their deficit to 56 by making 37 for one 15 overs.

Former England wicketkeeper Geraint Jones scored his first century of the season to steer Kent to almost certain victory against Surrey at Whitgift School in Croydon.

The former England wicketkeeper finished unbeaten on 106 from 100 balls in a total of 564 for five declared, giving Kent a first-innings lead of 398.

Then, the visitors snapped up three Surrey wickets to leave the hosts trailing by 251 runs going into the final day.
