Murali injury blow for Sri Lanka

Spinner Muttiah Muralitharan is a major doubt for Sri Lanka's one-day series with England and looks certain to miss the forthcoming ICC World Twenty20 in South Africa.

The bowler, who is within eight wickets of Shane Warne's world record for Test wickets, injured his right arm during the first day of Lancashire's County Championship clash at Kent on Tuesday.

"We feel he may have to miss the one-day series against England (which starts in October)," said Sri Lanka cricket secretary Kangadaran Mathivanan. "However, we are very confident that Muralitharan will be able to bowl against Australia (in November) and have a crack at the world record."

Muralitharan's manager Kushil Gunasekera added: "We are hopeful that the damage will not be serious and Murali will be able to resume his cricket after short rest."
