Murray and Blake crash out

Jamie Murray's new doubles partnership with American James Blake did not last long as the pair crashed out in the first round of the Master Series event in Montreal.

Murray revealed last week that he would split from regular partner Eric Butorac after the US Open, and the Scot then announced his intention to play alongside world number nine Blake this week, before linking up with India's Mahesh Bhupathi in his next tournament.

But in a closely fought match in the first round of the Rogers Cup in Canada, Murray and Blake fell 6-7 (3-7) 6-3 10-8 to Ivan Ljubicic and Fernando Gonzalez - ranked 11th and sixth in the ATP singles standings, respectively.

The first set went with serve, but Murray and Blake dominated the tie-break, moving 5-1 up before closing it out 7-3.

The second looked set to go the same way until Gonzalez and Ljubicic broke the Transatlantic pair in the eighth game, and they then served out to claim it 6-3.

And with the momentum on their side the singles specialists took a tight decider 10-8 to progress.
